The Goals of the Resource Enrichment Center are:                                                            

 

1.        To provide a comprehensive, online resource where students, practitioners, educators, researchers, policy advocates and others interested in care for the dying and bereaved can enroll in courses and learn how to apply current research to better provide care to the terminally ill and their families

 

2.        To create a direct link and transfer of information between the social work practice community, students, researchers, and lay people enabling them to share information more effectively, find answers to questions, and share perspective about end-of-life issues families face.

 

3.        To enhance the University of Connecticut School of Social Work’s extensive continuing education options by providing periodic online seminars and classes, workshops and presentations led by experts in the field of care at end-of-life. Regional students and practitioners can be better served without having to worry about commuting across the state to participate in classes and training.

 

4.         To provide an ongoing program innovation for care at end-of-life by making available timely, scholarly information and products that integrate, summarize and distill research in ways that re appealing and useful to social work students and practitioners, while developing a solid infrastructure of leaders in the field.

 

The Resource Enrichment Center for Improving Care at End-of-Life will offer various education and training modules including:

•       Distance and Distributive Education will provide increased flexibility and accessibility to traditional and non-traditional students through technologically enhance and “fully online” courses related to care for the dying and bereaved.

 

       Distributive Module will be available to guide other school of social work in the development of distance education plans including the assessment of course sequences, program goals, target audience and projected costs.

 

       Online Course Enhancement which reflect sound pedagogical design principles that employ dynamic, robust technologies while being engaging, interactive and rich in resource linkages will be developed and offered periodically. Students, practitioners, policy advisors and others interested in dying and bereaved can register for topic-specific listserves, through which information can be regularly disseminated and participants can share information.

 

       A Community of Social Work Scholars who are available to share their expertise in care at end-of-life with practitioners and students through online discussions as well as invited seminars on the campus.

 

       An Online Reference Library is a repository of resources related to care for the terminally ill and their families including electronic documents, periodicals, reference lists of current literature and government documents related to legislation, policy and links to relevant state and federal agencies.
