Disclaimer from the Resource Enrichment Center (REC) Project:   The discussion forum is intended for mature audiences.  The level of intensity associated with discussions of death, dying and loss can be highly charged emotionally. Young viewers are encouraged to be accompanied by a mature adult when interacting with the REC website.

This page contains links to public discussions for practitioners, educators, and anyone interested in Care at the End-of-Life. We maintain a separate protected web for the "Ask The Expert" discussions and notes.

Welcome to the Interactive options of Resource Enrichment Center (REC) for Improving Care at End-of-Life. These components of our online Center are designed to enable you to discuss a range of topic related to care at end-of-life. Here you will find:

Topics range from pain and symptom management, to dealing with death and dying, to social support, to financial concerns and insurance coverage, bereavement, grief/loss, aging, elder care and research.

This resource is an online forum for people living with terminal illness, pain and grief as well as members of their support networks. It is staffed almost entirely by social workers.

We have found that there are few options available on the Internet that offer similar message boards and we are striving to make REC an even better resource for you. While many online health-related sites may offer some content and perhaps even a message board devoted to terminal illness and bereavement, most appear to be less comprehensive and devoid of a social work perspective, which is so important in palliative and end-of-life care. Furthermore, many overwhelmingly introduce ad banners and commercial endorsements. It is our policy to prohibit the promotion of any product, service, or goods; hence you will see no advertising. Any attempt to sell a product, service, or goods will not be tolerated.

RESOURCE ENRICHMENT CENTER (REC) MISSION

Our mission is to provide both discussion forum and links to experts in the field for the purpose of enhancing available resources for the dying and the bereaved.

Discussion Forum: This resource option can be used as a peer support venue, information, and self-advocacy tools. This discussion forum is also available for use as a source of camaraderie, making new friends, and establishing a new connection with others you have met in the past. This forum may include a wide range of specific topics with sub-folders when appropriate.

You will never be asked to provide your full name, address, or telephone number for the purposes of participation in REC. You may choose to elect a pen name, which does not completely identify yourself for the purposes of participation. This is to protect your anonymity and provide confidentiality.

When using the discussion forum, if you wish to create a topic of your own, feel free to do so.  Please take the time to see what is already included in as topics prior to posting a message or creating a new topic. In many cases you will find the subject already listed.

Ask the Expert: The SWDLA network of practitioners have worked very hard to develop and implement innovative projects to assist in the educating and training of students and professionals who provide palliative and end-of-life care. For the purpose of the REC online mission, the experts and REC staff persons will not offer medical or legal advice.
